Backing onto Richmond Park, this property benefits from the ’borrowed‘ landscape of the park’s mature trees. The client brief was to integrate a large swimming pool with pool house/pump room within the new garden and offer seating areas to catch both the morning and afternoon sun.

Integral to the design are two dry stone walls. The first, with three lead spigots, form a water feature with the collection pool below and draw the eye down the garden. 

The second wall, on the cross axis, forms a seated area with an in-built iroko hardwood cantilevered bench. Mirroring this is a second bench within the herbaceous border framed by clipped yew buttresses. Referencing the parkland beyond, cube-headed, full standard Carpinus betula are planted, punctuating the perspective and softening the rectilinear from. The planting beds have clipped Taxus baccata and Choisya ternata Aztec pearl hedges layered with perennials and biennials.
