This large holiday home is a much-loved destination for family and friends to decamp and head to the nearby beach. A superb area for socialising, the key requirements focused on creating areas to relax and entertain, while keeping maintenance to an absolute minimum.
To the rear of the house, an expansive paved area of locally sourced Delabole slate houses a large dining table with cantilevered benches fabricated from marine-grade stainless steel and hardwood.
The prevailing wind that used to channel between the house and the boundary hedge has now been quelled using a hardwood slatted door and panel divide. On the lower main lawn at the front of the house, an L-shaped dry stone wall and Delabole slate paved area offer a sheltered retreat to watch the setting sun. The planting design had to cope with the extremes of harsh winds and/or blistering sun and driving rain. Nassella tenuissima and Carex testacea were chosen to go alongside the rigid forms of Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Tom Thumb’, Libertia perigrinans and Agapanthus africanus.
